Cool New Measuring Scoop

nuscoopI visit Plate It Up! here in Glendale, AZ almost every Saturday and I always make Heather show me the new gadgets that have arrived since my last visit. Yesterday she showed me this new adjustable measuring cup and scoop called nuscüp by Dalla Piazza, a Swiss company. It comes in clear and electric blue. I just had to have the blue one.

It works with solids as well as liquids. I can adjust the volume of the scoop by simply moving the slider on the handle with my thumb. It has scales in tablespoons, cups, ounces, and milliliteres.

I really like this thing. I made hazelnut-vanilla waffles this morning and needed 2/3 cup cake flour. The nice narrow shape made it easy to get down into the box of cake flour and scoop out just the right amount. It has a magnet on the underside so I can slap it onto the side of the refrigerator.

Here’s the best thing though: Suppose you need a 1/4 cup of sugar and because you are a fumbler like me, the sugar is across the kitchen from the mixing bowl. How many times have you carried the little full-to-the-brim measuring cup across the kitchen, leaving a tiny trail of sugar crystals along the way? With the nuscüp, you set it to 1/4 cup, scoop out the sugar, then move the slider all the way back (making it a 1/2 cup scoop that is no longer full to the brim). How cool is that?

The nuscüp is destined to become a well-used gadget in my kitchen.
