Mastering the Art of French Cooking, Julia Child
Saint Julia. I know I’m not the only foodie who refers to Julia Child that way. If you’ve never watched any of her old French Chef episodes you really should. They are the antithesis of what you see on the Food Channel today. She’s using cookware that looks like it came from the Dollar Store. She’s cooking on an electric stove with pushbutton controls! Yet the end results are fabulous. Julia proves that you don’t need ten thousand dollars worth of cookware to prepare excellent meals.
Mastering the Art of French Cooking by Julia Child is the most well-used cookbook in my collection. My shelf space available for cookbooks is limited. As a result, each time I acquire a new one it means that one of the old ones has to go. Mastering will never suffer that fate.
Julia breaks each recipe down into simple easy-to-follow steps. Almost every classic French dish is in there, and if it’s in there she’s made it easy for you to prepare.
If you are new to cooking then you should own Mastering the Art of French Cooking. If your focus is on French cooking you should also own this book.
