Martha’s Biscuits

Img_0927A recent issue of Martha Stewart Living contained a recipe for Baking Power Biscuits. The picture looked yummy and the recipe looked easy enough but the results were a disappointment.

While the recipe described them as flaky, I thought they came out a bit dry and crumbly. I am not an expert biscuit maker (this is the first time I have ever made biscuits), so perhaps the problem is mine.

The recipe says that when the dough comes together it will be sticky. I presume that by ‘sticky’ she means that it sticks to your hands as you work it. Mine did not even though I followed the recipe exactly. Perhaps I needed to add more cream? Shorten the baking time a few minutes? I dunno.

Of course this means that I have been challenged to solve this problem and make nice flaky biscuits.
